Rough cut of Magazine cover

After researching the horror genre and different types of professional magazines I was able to develop and create my own magazine cover for my trailer. In order to do this I used a software on my MAC computer called Photoshop. The variety of different tools provided on Photoshop coupled with my knowledge of Photoshop from my first year in media studies has allowed me to construct a creative and professional looking product.

My magazine cover:

From creating a print product in media studies last year I already had knowledge of magazine covers and knew what needed to be included in order to make one look professional, for example; masthead, sell-lines, main sell-line, a colour palette, main image etc.

However, in order to ensure that my magazine looks as professional as possible I researched a variety of magazine covers of the horror genre. The data I collected from this is provided in a powerpoint in my 'Primary Research' post earlier in my blog. After collecting this data I discovered that the magazine cover which was most effective to my audience was the one shown below:

As the information I collected shows this was the text which was most effective to my audience I combined features from this magazine and ideas of my own to create my magazine cover.

From this text I interpreted the canted angle of the main image into my own product because I felt this made the image more creative however I have made my main image out of focus, I did this because I think it makes my character look mysterious. I also took the idea of a colour palette which consists of only 2 colours. When I first began to structure my magazine cover I did use the same colour palette of green and white like this text did.

But then I began experimenting with other colours and decided that red and white was more effective because the red connotes blood which links to the horror genre of my magazine.
