Audience feedback - Magazine cover

In order to gather my audience feedback I presented my magazine cover to my audience and then explained what effect I was trying to give while creating it, I then provided a piece of paper and pen to my audience and asked them to give 2 negative points and 2 positive points of my magazine cover rough cut to highlight what they specifically liked and did not like about my magazine cover.

From the screenshots above you can see that 2 out of 3 of my audience members could only think of 1 or no negative points to my magazine cover, showing that they think it did not need much improving however the improvements that do need to made include the size of my sell lines as they felt it was difficult to read and also that I should add more text to my cover. I will consider this but I feel that too much text could make my cover look too crowded. The features of my magazine cover which my audience liked the most are: the font type of my main sell-line 'Welcome to the neighbourhood', my audience that this was effective as it presented the horror genre of my magazine clearly. My audience also liked my main image as they felt the out of focus image was effective as it was intriguing and mysterious making them want to know more about the film and plot.

Although I appreciated the feedback I was given from my audience it was not very helpful in making changes to improve my magazine cover. Therefore I decided to gather feedback from a more professional audience member, to do this I asked my media studies teacher to take a look at my magazine cover. Her responses were:

  • Looks too messy/unorganised
  • Rearrange current sell-lines.
  • Insert more sell-lines in more colour
  • Move main image further down as current sell-lines are covering the main antagonist.
